Nick Minaj Covers KING (March/April 2011)

"KING finally got their queen, as Nicki Minaj strikes a pose for the magazine’s March/April 2011 issue. Peep an excerpt from the feature below." - B.Dot
KING: History has shown that acting is the likeliest transition for rappers. Considering your background, do you want to dabble in Hollywood?
NICKI MINAJ: Of course.
What would be your dream role?
I’d like to play someone in a Tim Burton movie, where I get dressed up and painted and crazy.
You kind of do that now.
Then I want to be able to do some action stuff, like Angelina Jolie.
Like in Salt?
Yes! And then I’d like to just play a regular girl who, you know, is facing the world. Something really sentimental and organic, that girls all around the world can identify with. You know, how Jada Pinkett Smith did in Jason’s Lyric.
Classic film. You did mention earlier how everything has been time consuming. But when that time frees up, what kind of guy do you look for to be sentimental and organic with?
Um, I look for someone who is calm, someone who is strong enough to not have to win every argument, someone who allows a woman to be her crazy self and someone with a conscience not to feel less of a man. You know, someone who is able to honor his woman but also bring out the freak in his woman.
How should your Ken bring out the freak in you, Barbie?
Just being super aggressive when the time is right.
Are we talking about Mortal Kombat–style “Come here” aggression?
Just something that makes me feel like they’re in control, when we are behind closed doors.

Female Rapper Magnolia Shorty (formally of Cash Money Records) Murdered In New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — Fans turned to the Internet Monday night to mourn the loss of the second female rapper to sign on with Cash Money Records, a national label that began in New Orleans.
Magnolia Shorty, born Renetta Lowe, got her stage name from the late rapper Magnolia Slim aka Soulja Slim, who was also from the Magnolia Housing Development.
She was shot to death early Monday.Lowe was known as the “Queen of Bounce.” She was discovered by Brian “Birdman” Williams and came onto the music scene in the 1990s.The 28-year-old’s most recent project included a collaboration with New Orleans high school student Kourtney Heart, which helped the teenager land a record deal with Jive Records.
Local DJ Wild Wayne, from Q93, said the collaborations were Lowe’s specialty.Wayne said he doubts that Lowe was the intended target when she was shot and killed. She and an unidentified man were shot in the Georgetown apartment complex in New Orleans East at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday.”It’s just sad to hear she lost her life to this senseless violence,” Wayne said.
“(It) seems to be cyclical in this city. You would think after (Hurricane) Katrina, we would have had a clean slate and realized the value of life, but it’s still happening.”He said he believes Lowe’s death is reminiscent of the recent slaying of comedian Messy Mya.”There is going to be a lot of attention to this thing, and already if you look at social media, there are tons of comments (on) Twitter, Facebook,” he said. “I don’t think this case will take long to get solved, but it’s just sad it had to happen.
“Wayne said he has been playing Magnolia Shorty’s songs while he works on some sort of event to pay tribute to her. Several websites crashed Monday night due to fans uploading pictures and posting messages about the slain rapper.

T.I. Thanks Fans TODAY On Album Release Day

"On the day of the release of his seventh studio LP, Clifford took to his site and thanked his fans and supporters. TIP also mentions he has a title for his next LP. But until he announces it, ‘head to your local record store and cop No Mercy today." - Big Homie

So here it is…NO MERCY, the most honest and intimate installment of my life story as promised. Hope y’all enjoy it and it lives up to the very high standards I’ve set for myself  or anyone who’s to be considered one of the best.  I must admit it takes a lot to go through as much as I have and still keep the love in your heart and in your art. But at the end of the day, if that’s what it takes to produce the music that keeps the world of hip-hop evolving on it’s axis….Then even the lowest of the lows of my life was all worth it. Thanks again for your prayers, your time and attention.  And remember….It does’nt matter how long it’ll be before the next time you see me.  What matters is that I’ll be a better man before that time comes.  The longer I sit, the smarter I get.

I’d like to give a vey special thank you to all the fans who’ve been writing me and lifting my spirits everyday.  I read all of them.   Although I would never be able to write you all back…I’d like to list as many of you individualy as i can and thank the others collectively.   It’s a relief to know that there still are people who see a man with a life and not just another headline in the news.  Most of you sound very concerned and optimistic at the same time about my situation.  Let me assure you all that I am deffenitely keeping my head up.  I don’t consider myself done by far.  Also many of you are convinced as I am that God has a plan for me that he’s preparing me for.  How do you tell God Almighty that all you wanna do is LIVE LIFE ???  What if all you wanna do is be a father to your kids, a husband to your wife, and son to your mother while providing insightful motivation through music and lending a helping hand when posible to those who need it most.  Well guys…That’s the topic of discussion between me and the MOST HIGH at the moment.  I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out.  Who knows maybe you can look foward to hearing the dialogue between us set to music on the next album…which I’ll be announcing the official title to sooner than later. But until then, thanks again for all your understanding, love and support. Y’all take it light and be eazy.

- Love King.

Nicki Minaj's 'Pink Friday' Has The Second Highest Debut Week In History Of Female Rap

Nicki Minaj can officially add herself to a lineup of record breaking female rappers now that her album Pink Friday has had the second highest debut week in history.
As previously reported, the Young Money Barbie moved 375,190 copies of her debut project putting her at #2 on the Billboard charts behind Kanye West.
Now with the official numbers in, Minaj can celebrate having the second highest debut week in female rap history.
Nicki took to her Twitter page to announce the good news to her fans saying,
“Pink Friday has the 2nd highest debut week in the HISTORY of FEMALE RAP w/375,190 units sold. Thank u sooo much 4 supporting this project!”

Topping Nicki in debut week sales is Lauryn Hill who sold 423,000 copies of her ‘The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill' in September 1998.
Lauryn's project however wasn't classified in the ‘Hip-Hop' genre so the title of female rapper with the highest selling debut week was given to Missy Elliot, who sold 259,000 copies of her 2002 albumUnder Construction.
Based on those numbers, Nicki technically has the highest selling first week from a female rapper in history.
Check out Nicki's tweets on the good news below.
