Top 60 Worst Lil Wayne Lines on Tha Carter IV

"Lil Wayne's magnum crapus Tha Carter IV came out yesterday; first up in our Weezy coverage was Daniel Kohn's really funny piece about his brother's strange encounter getting high with the diminuitive rapper back in New Orleans.
In any case, the album is wildly uneven. It features some excellent production and great guest turns from folks like Tech N9ne, Rick Ross, Bun B and others. What ruins the album, however, is Wayne himself, who offers up an all-you-care-to-eat smorgasbord of bad puns, sorry similes and unreasonable metaphors. Here are his sixty worst lines from the album." -  Ben Westhoff

(exclusive) Apple loses another unreleased iPhone

In a bizarre repeat of a high-profile incident last year, an Apple employee once again appears to have lost an unreleased iPhone in a bar, CNET has learned.
The errant iPhone, which went missing in San Francisco's Mission district in late July, sparked a scramble by Apple security to recover the device over the next few days, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
Last year, an iPhone 4 prototype was bought by a gadget blog that paid $5,000 in cash. This year's lost phone seems to have taken a more mundane path: it was taken from a Mexican restaurant and bar and may have been sold on Craigslist for $200. Still unclear are details about the device, what version of the iOS operating system it was running, and what it looks like.
While Apple has not publicly announced any plans for future phones, unconfirmed reports in the last few weeks suggest the launch date for the iPhone 5 is likely to be in early October. Other reports from Taiwan have set the date at September or October. (See CNET's iPhone 5 rumor roundup.)
Apple declined to comment after being contacted this morning. A spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department said the company did not file a police report based on the loss at the bar. Craigslist did not respond to requests for comment.
A day or two after the phone was lost at San Francisco's Cava 22, which describes itself as a "tequila lounge" that also serves lime-marinated shrimp ceviche, Apple representatives contacted San Francisco police, saying the device was priceless and the company was desperate to secure its safe return, the source said.

Apple electronically traced the phone to a two-floor, single-family home in San Francisco's Bernal Heights neighborhood, according to the source.
When San Francisco police and Apple's investigators visited the house, they spoke with a man in his twenties who acknowledged being at Cava 22 on the night the device went missing. But he denied knowing anything about the phone. The man gave police permission to search the house, and they found nothing, the source said. Before leaving the house, the Apple employees offered the man money for the phone no questions asked, the source said, adding that the man continued to deny he had knowledge of the phone.
After last year's embarrassing loss, Apple reportedly has taken extraordinary steps to protect its prototype devices from leaks. Next-generation iPhones are sent to carriers for testing "inside locked and sealed boxes so that the carriers can carry out checks on their network compatibility in their labs," according to the Guardian.
Apple developers have been given new iPhones with an upgraded processor -- the one that is used in the iPad 2 and is expected to appear in the next-generation iPhone. But the device "is virtually identical to the iPhone 4, and there is no way anyone can tell it's not an iPhone 4 based on the phone's exterior," a report at 9to5Mac.com says. Even last year's prototype was enclosed in a case designed to make it look like an iPhone 3GS.
Last year's prototype iPhone went missing when Robert Gray Powell, an Apple computer engineer who was 28 years old at the time, left it in a German beer garden in Redwood City, Calif.
In early August, San Mateo County prosecutors filed misdemeanor criminal charges against two men, Brian Hogan and Sage Wallower, for allegedly selling Powell's iPhone 4 prototype to Gawker Media's Gizmodo blog. An arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow.
Prosecutors obtained a warrant to search the home of Gizmodo editor Jason Chen, and indicated they might prosecute Gizmodo, but eventually decided not to file charges.
Under a California law dating back to 1872, any person who finds lost property and knows who the owner is likely to be--but "appropriates such property to his own use"--is guilty of theft. In addition, a second state law says any person who knowingly receives property that has been obtained illegally can be imprisoned for up to one year.
CNET's Josh Lowensohn and Elinor Mills contributed to this report

US government files to block proposed AT&T / T-Mobile merger

You heard right. Bloomberg is reporting that the United States government (!) just filed court papers in Washington, D.C. to block the much ballyhooed tie-up between AT&T and T-Mobile USA. Oddly enough, T-Mobile and AT&T promised this morning that a total of 5,000 jobs would be hand delivered to the US if the two telcos were allowed to become one, but it'll take a heck of a lot more convincing now. For what it's worth, this doesn't mean that the deal is or isn't happening -- it's just another step in the process -- but it most certainly doesn't bode well for proponents. Nor for AT&T's share price.

According to the report, the Justice Department feels that the deal would "substantially lessen competition" in the wireless space. In fact, it boldly stated the following: "AT&T's elimination of T-Mobile as an independent, low-priced rival would remove a significant competitive force from the market." If things end up falling apart, it's important to remember that AT&T would be forced to pay Deutsche Telekom $3 billion as a break-up fee, which ought to make Tiger Woods' misfortunes look like an outright bargain.

Update: Full press release is now embedded after the break, and meanwhile, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski has issued the following public statement: "Although our process is not complete, the record before this agency also raises serious concerns about the impact of the proposed transaction on competition."

Update 2: Wayne Watts, AT&T Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel, issued the following statement (seen after the break)...

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
"We are surprised and disappointed by today's action, particularly since we have met repeatedly with the Department of Justice and there was no indication from the DOJ that this action was being contemplated. We plan to ask for an expedited hearing so the enormous benefits of this merger can be fully reviewed. The DOJ has the burden of proving alleged anti-competitive affects and we intend to vigorously contest this matter in court. At the end of the day, we believe facts will guide any final decision and the facts are clear. This merger will:

· Help solve our nation's spectrum exhaust situation and improve wireless service for millions.
· Allow AT&T to expand 4G LTE mobile broadband to another 55 million Americans, or 97% of the population;
· Result in billions of additional investment and tens of thousands of jobs, at a time when our nation needs them most.

We remain confident that this merger is in the best interest of consumers and our country, and the facts will prevail in court.
"

Update 3: Not like anyone asked 'em, but Sprint's just entered the conversation with a statement of its own: Vonya B. McCann, senior vice president of Government Affairs for the carrier, had this to say:
"The DOJ today delivered a decisive victory for consumers, competition and our country. By filing suit to block AT&T's proposed takeover of T-Mobile, the DOJ has put consumers' interests first. Sprint applauds the DOJ for conducting a careful and thorough review and for reaching a just decision – one which will ensure that consumers continue to reap the benefits of a competitive U.S. wireless industry. Contrary to AT&T's assertions, today's action will preserve American jobs, strengthen the American economy, and encourage innovation."

Pretty amazing how two companies in the exact same business can see this so differently.

Jim Jones Explains "Lil' Wayne" Twitter Diss

"This past Monday, Jim Jones of the Diplomats caused a little bit of a stir after sending out a controversial tweet that many may have believed were directed at Lil’ Wayne. On August 29th, Jones tweeted “So these rappers and RnB singers started gang bangin’ and claiming blood after they’ve made millions? WTF , where they do that at?” Jones continued and made his seemingly vague tweet a little bit clearer when he stated “Real men don’t wear spandex, smh lol.”
In an interview with TheSource.com yesterday, Jim Jones elaborated a little bit more on his thoughts on that tweet and on twitter in general. “See that’s the funny thing about Twitter, man. Everybody always assumes something,” Jones said laughingly. “ I say what I want to say and always have. To me Twitter is also a form of entertainment and I know some people have to make a living off of writing and blogging about that shit, so I ain’t knocking them for that. But about that actual tweet, I didn’t directly aim that at anybody and anyone who knows me knows if I got something to say about somebody I’m going to say it. But if people feel a certain way I always say if that shoe fits, wear it, ya’ dig?”
You can check out Jim Jones on the remix of Tinie Tempah’s “Til’ Im Gone,” featuring Wiz Khalifah, and Pusha T."

Unemployed Illinois Man Finds $150,000 In His Backyard

A man in northern Illinois found a valuable surprise in his backyard Tuesday afternoon: A duffle bag filled with stacks of $20 bills.
As Wayne Sabaj, a 49-year-old unemployed carpenter living in Johnsburg, explained to WGN, he had been looking for broccoli in his garden when he saw the duffle bag. After Sabaj showed the bag to his father, with whom he lives, they decided to alert police.
When the McHenry Sheriff's Department arrived, they discovered a second bag. All told, the bags contained $150,000.
"I went and spent my last $10 on cigarettes yesterday, but I turned in $150,000," Sabaj said.
"I haven't worked in two years. Yeah, I was like, I could really use this money," the man told ABC7. "With my luck, it would be bank robbery and I'd get caught and say I'd robbed a bank."
The bags are now in the custody of police, who are processing them for fingerprints and any other evidence, according to the Northwest Herald. There are currently no suspects. In the bags' place, investigators left a business card listing a phone number and a "please call" note. If an owner is not identified, police indicated they may assist Sabaj in determining whether he can claim the money.

Justin Bieber Joins MTV’s ‘Punk’d', Pranks Taylor Swift

bieber taylor punkd

"Beavis and Butthead isn’t the only MTV show planning a comeback. Punk’d is returning to TV, but instead of Ashton Kutcher as the host, each episode will feature a different celebrity pulling pranking duties. First up? Justin Bieber pranking Taylor Swift.
Bieber – who is already getting into joke-mode after photo-bombing Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s intimate pics at the VMAs – recently performed his song “Baby” with Taylor in Los Angeles last week. But their good friendship couldn’t keep the four-eyed pop star from targeting the country star as his first victim.
The nature of the prank has yet to be revealed, but let’s hope it doesn’t involve interrupting her while accepting an award at an awards show."
